Cuito Cuanavale Battle decisive for Southern Africa
Luanda - The Cuito Cuanavale Battle is the major symbol of resistance of the Angolan people against the apartheid regime of South Africa and a decisive landmark in the set of victories that changed Southern Africa.This was said Friday in Luanda by the deputy minister of ex-Combatants and Motherland Veterans, Clemente Conjuca.The deputy minister was addressing the opening of the first conference on Angola’s contribution to the process of liberation of Namibia and pacification of Southern Africa, sponsored by the national Secretariat of the ruling party’s youth wing (JMPLA).According to the official, besides sharing a long land and maritime border, Angola and Namibia enjoy ties of blood and history that make them brother.He recalled that since independence on 11 November 1975, Angola supported Namibia, including during its liberation struggle.The conference versed on the contribution of Angola to the process of independence of Namibia and relevant matters on the historical relations between Angola and Namibia.
The event received address by the ruling MPLA party Politburo secretary for External Relations, Afonso Van-Dúnem Mbinda, and the Namibian general, Martin Shali.
